Vitamin E for Menopause: Evidence, Interactions and Cautions

Vitamin E is an ingredient used in menopause supplements marketed to women. Below is what it has actually been studied for, how strong that evidence is, the drug interactions and cautions on record, and the primary source our grade rests on — all drawn from the HerWellReport ingredient dataset.

What the evidence says about Vitamin E

The Menopause Society's 2023 nonhormone therapy position statement reviewed two crossover trials (120 and 50 women) and found only a limited reduction in hot flush frequency compared with placebo. Those trials were small, short and crossover in design, so the small difference is hard to separate from placebo response. Vitamin E is named explicitly on that statement's not-recommended list, at Level I.

The grade "limited" means: limited — One or two small human trials, or trials for a closely related outcome. Grades are explained in full on our methodology page.
