What the evidence says about Calcium glycerophosphate

The 2016 International Urogynecology Journal systematic review of complementary therapies for bladder pain syndrome screened 1454 citations and included 11 studies, only 4 of them randomised, and the evidence it found for calcium glycerophosphate was not among the randomised ones. What it reported instead was a finding that the supplement appears to reduce symptoms in a patient whose symptoms are exacerbated by particular foods, plus an internet survey in which respondents said they considered it helpful. That is patient perception, not controlled evidence. The review's overall verdict was that findings came from small studies and that robustly designed multicentre randomised trials are needed.

The grade "very limited" means: very limited — Mostly animal, laboratory or anecdotal evidence, with at most a single weak human study. Grades are explained in full on our methodology page.

Calcium glycerophosphate drug interactions

No documented drug interactions in the sources we checked. That is not the same as proof of safety alongside your medication — it usually means the question has not been studied. Ask a pharmacist before combining it with prescription drugs.

Who should be careful with Calcium glycerophosphate

No specific cautions recorded beyond the usual ones for any supplement: check with your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have liver or kidney disease, or take regular medication.
